The critical years

This page is linked to the historical document "The critical years", Bob Zoller's history.
It is an extremely interesting document that everybody should read carefully, to understand why our breed is what it is today.
This document is full of interesting details, references and invualuable informations about the early malamutes and foundation stock, and it is very well written too, a pleasure to read.
It also features a very detailed report about the famous Seeley Vs. Zoller AKC trial, that broke Eva Seeley's monopoly on the breed recognizing as legitimate the different strains, the M'loots and the Hinman's and Irwin's dogs upon which Robert Zoller based his program and whose blood flows in the veins of the most valuable Malmautes of today.
Half a century has passed since those events described, but there's still people, trying to keep or establish a monopoly or holding on to a position of power and influence on the breed.
This is why we Robert Zoller cannot only be considered an important breeder of the old times, but his message to all of us is still actual and his example is one that we all must try to follow, with our dogs and in our lifes. We do hope there will be many more like Robert Zoller.

The Magnificent Malamutes Of husky-Pak

There would be a lot to say to say about Robert Zoller and the great Husky-Pak dogs.
We dedicate this area of our website to this GREAT MAN, not just because of the extraordinary dogs that he bred, much more than milestones to the Alaskan Malamute breed but also for his approach to breeding that demostrated how outstanding results can be achieved with a limited breeding program, for standing beside his ideas for the good of the Alaskan Malamute, and last but not least because he must be credited for establishing our breed and translating it into our breed standard (which is a very good one when properly interpretated).
In other words Robert Zoller is the father of the Alaskan Malamute.
It's because of Robert Zoller's job that the Alaskan Malamute standard represents so well all the different strains and that is so amazingly near to the description and photos of the dogs made by the explorers, as to type, size, coat, conformation and temperament.
Had it not been for Robert Zoller and Husky-Pak today's Alaskan Malamute would sure be a different bree, different from what it is now and different from what the early explorer described in their journals.
