Bear-Pak is a small breeding home, in central Italy, in the region Abruzzo, in a National Park area on the Appenini Mountains.
We are placed in a valley in the vicinity of the"Gran Sasso", the highest peak of the Appenini (2918 mt) and southernmost european glacier.
Our place can easily be reached from Rome (150 Km east of Rome on Highway A24), and we are about 50 km from the East Coast Highway A14, the nearest town (Teramo) is about 20 Km from the village where we live.
Our natural reserve is among the few in Europe where wolves and bears can still be found and the bear is actually the symbol of our region, Abruzzo.
We love and respect this wonderful animal after which we nick named our first mal Teddy Bear.
Our region is well known for the natural reserves that cover about 80% of the territory, and for the many ski resorts, tourism being the main asset of our region.
The climate is ideal for Malamutes since we usually get a fair amount of snow from November to April, while in the remaining months the weather is usually not so rainy and the summers are cool, at least at the altitude where we are located.
Heavy snow falls are pretty common in the winter when the bad weather comes in from the north east, as the cold air gets damp on the sea and discharges heavy snowfalls when it hits our mountains, so we often have more snow in this area then in the alps in northern Italy, although the temperature here is usually somewhat milder.
The location and the climate gives us a chance to prove and appreciate our malamutes as working dogs, and not only as excellent show prospects and everyday companions.
Dog trekking, biking, skyjoring, sledding, showing, snowshoeing, we have fun with our dogs in many ways.
