IMPORTANT
In judging Alaskan Malamutes theyr function as a sledge dog for heavy freighting in the arctic must be given consideration above all else.

Willow CIAM CUP 2003 Winner - Best Italian Bitch of 2003

It is official now.
With 93 points our willow has won the 2003 CIAM CUP, the Breed Club point based ranking.
This very important award tops off a very succesful year for our willow, and we are really thrilled by her last achievement.
The Italian Show Circuit is very competitive on Alaskan Malamutes, with many nice bitches of good quality, most of them more mature than our not-yet-2-years-old bitch. Despite this she managed to climb to very top of the Ranking, something to be really proud of.
Willow is now getting ready for her most important task of 2004, as she will be bred on her next season which should be in a few weeks from now.
We are sure she will not only be a good show and working girl but also a very good dam and brood bitch, hopefully following the path of her grandma Kali.
Willow has been recently officially rated HD-A (excellent) on hips, 0 (excellent) on elbows, and her eyes are CLEAR (in accordance to CERF protocol). [Photoalbum]

Milano(Ita) January 17th, CIAM Alaskan Malamute Specialty

The first specialty of 2004 was held in Milan under Slovenijan judge Mr. S. Sinko, on first day of the Milan International Show.
Despite the importance of a specialty our breed ring was placed inside a circus-like tent with a polished wooden floor upon which the dogs had little chance to show any movement, as theyr primary concern was trying to stand on theyr feet on the slippery surface.
Most exhibitors signed a complaint to the KC about the accomodation and general organization of the show, and this will most probably be the last time that a specialty will be assigned to the Milan Kennel Club.
Anyway the level and number of dogs was definitely good especially in both dogs and bitches open classes (as usual) with several dogs coming from foreign countries.
Unfortunately the slippery flooring gave Mr. Sinko little chance to properly evaluate sidegaits.
On our website 23 pictures featuring most dogs and bitches that entered the ring. [Fotoalbum]

Highlights

In memory of Kali, beloved pet, Working Titled AKC Champion and true foundation bitch

The end of the year was not happy for our friends of Snowlion's Kennels since theyr foundation bitch Snowlion's Kali Devi died in peace on December 27.
This news struck us, and we have an idea of the grief that brought.
Kali was not only a member of the Watkins' family but also a top winning Champion and an outstanding foundation bitch that produced several AKC champions with different studs, placing forever such a heavy mark on the Snowlion bloodline that it can be actually considered as HER bloodline.
Suffice it to say that ALL the girls out of her last litter (with Uyak Aleut Alex) are AKC champions and dams of champions worldwide.
Loosing Kali is sure a great loss to those that loved her as a family member and to all those that love the Alaskan Malamute breed, for such a bitch is definitely not born everyday, and her contribution to the breed as to health, conformation and temperament was, is and will be unvaluable.
Our Willow is a double grandaughter of Kali, so she lives in her in a way, and we will do our best to bring Kali out of Willow.
Should Willow produce half as well as what her grandma Kali has produced we would consider ourselves among the luckiest breeders on hearth to have her.
Grandma Kali is now in a better place where age and pain are forgotten, and she lives on in her offspring and progeny.

Nike - Winning Majors at 6 months

Let us introduce you this incredibly good looking young bitch that is causing a lot of talking in US.
Nike, Snowlion's Rude Awakening.
This wonderful young bitch is out of Ch Snowlion's Lone Ranger and Ch Snowlion Moon Over Everest, therefore being a double on Uyak Aleut Alex (that sired both Ranger and Moon) and on Kali (that was dam to Moon and granddam to Ranger).
The lucky owner Kim Adkinson proudly comments about Nike" I have spent three years looking for a bitch that would live up to my ideal of the breed standard. Nike is my ideal of perfection, she is a stunning bitch with excellent type and movement" [Continued]

Hopi Point's "G" litter - Outcrossing with style

Linebreeding or outcrossing ?
Keeping and reinforcing the traits so carefully selected or going out to look for new blood risking to loose your achievements ?
This is a typical question for breeders, but it's sure not a problem at Hopi Points Kennels in Slovenija, since they always manage to get the best of both worlds.
Outcrossing has become almost an art for Marija Al Faraj that can mix and blend completely unrelated lines and still keep her type producing outstanding prospects like the above pictured Hopi Point Grizzly Bear only one year old and already well known as a show winner and working dog in Danmark and throughout Scandinavia.[Continued]

Site Updates

New Sledding Photos

We had a white Christmas in the Appennines this year, with heavy snowfalls from December 22 to Christmas and again around the end of the year.
A very good chance to go sledding everyday during the Holydays, and spend more time with our dogs having fun with them and keeping them fit and happy. They sure enjoyed the holydays as much as we did.
The conditions where so good thanks to the cold weather that we actually didn't loose too much time shooting pictures but still we had enough to sort out a few good ones to be published on our website.
Willow has grown into a wonderful sled dog with an amazing working attitude, strenght and stamina. We appreciate her as a working dog at least so much as we appreciate her show results.

Snowshoeing Photos

New heavy snowfalls by the end January have covered our mountains in a fresh new blanket of powder snow.
On the first sunny day we went out for a walk in the woods, the malamutes actually swimming in the snow and breaking trail before us.
I shot among the best pictures I have.
If you like malamutes and snow you should really give a look at this photo album!
